A watermark marks a video as yours, whether to deter reuploads, label a preview copy, or keep a channel identifiable when clips get shared out of context. A corner mark or a tiled pattern

A single corner mark is the polite version: it identifies the source, stays out of the way, and is what most published work uses. It is also easy to crop out, which is exactly why review copies, unreleased footage and licensed previews often use a tiled pattern instead. Tiling across the whole frame at low opacity cannot be cropped away without destroying the video, at the price of a picture that nobody would consider finished. Choose by whether the video is a publication or a protection copy.

Opacity, size and timing

Somewhere between 30% and 60% opacity is usually right for a corner mark: visible against both bright and dark backgrounds without dominating the picture. Size it at roughly 10–15% of the frame width, and keep it inside a 10% margin from the edges so platform cropping and interface overlays do not eat it. Timing matters too — a mark that only appears for a few seconds is less intrusive but also trivially removed by trimming, so continuous placement is safer when the watermark exists to deter reuse.

What opacity should a watermark be?

30–60% for a corner mark. That stays visible on both bright and dark footage without competing with the content. Tiled protection watermarks usually sit lower, around 10–20%.

Can someone remove my watermark?

A corner mark can be cropped out easily. Tiling across the frame makes removal impractical without ruining the video, which is why preview and review copies use it.

What image format should the watermark file be?

PNG with transparency is best, since the background of the logo will not show as a box. JPG and WebP work but a JPG has no alpha channel, so it arrives as a rectangle.

Where should I place it?

A corner, inside a 10% margin from the edges. Avoid the bottom of vertical video, where platform captions and buttons sit over the picture.

Can the watermark appear only part of the time?

Yes, you can set when it appears and disappears. Bear in mind that an intermittent mark is easy to trim around if deterrence is the goal.
