A collage puts two to four videos on screen at the same time — side-by-side comparisons, a split-screen duet, multi-angle coverage of the same event, or four clips in a grid. Two clips side by side suit a widescreen canvas; two stacked suit a vertical one. A 2×2 grid works on square or widescreen and badly on vertical, where four cells each end up too small to read on a phone. Match the layout to where the video will be watched rather than to how it looks on your monitor. Also consider what is inside each clip: two talking heads survive being shrunk, two screen recordings full of small text usually do not.
A comparison only works if the clips are showing the corresponding moment. Different lengths and different start points are the norm, so align on a shared reference — the same action, the same cue, the same starting instant — and trim before building the collage if the sources differ wildly in length. The shortest clip generally determines how long the collage is useful for; where one ends early, decide whether to hold its last frame or shorten the whole piece.
Four soundtracks at once is unintelligible. In practice, one clip should carry the audio and the rest should be silent or very low. If the point of the collage is to compare sound — different takes of a performance, say — it is clearer to give each clip its moment in sequence than to play them together. Set the balance and listen to the mix in the preview before exporting; overlapping speech is far more obvious in motion than it looks on a timeline.
