Sometimes only the sound matters: an interview you need to transcribe, a lecture to listen to on a commute, a song from a performance you filmed. This tool pulls the soundtrack out of a video file and saves it as MP3 or WAV, with the option to trim to the part you want and listen to the result before downloading.

MP3 or WAV — pick by what happens next

MP3 is compressed and small, plays on everything, and is the right answer for listening, sharing and archiving speech. WAV is uncompressed: perceptually identical to the source track, roughly ten times bigger, and the right answer when the audio is going into another editor, a transcription pipeline, or any process that will re-encode it again. Encoding to MP3 now and re-encoding later stacks two lots of lossy compression, which is audible on music and on quiet speech.

What you can and cannot recover

Extraction copies the audio that is in the file; it does not improve it. If the original recording clipped, or the microphone caught mostly wind, that damage is baked in and will be in the extracted track too. What you can fix afterwards is level and balance — the normalizer evens out loudness, the noise remover reduces steady hiss and fan noise, and the equalizer lifts speech clarity. Extract first, clean second, and keep the untouched extraction as your master.

Should I choose MP3 or WAV?

MP3 for listening, sharing or archiving — it is far smaller and universally supported. WAV when the audio will be edited or re-encoded later, because it avoids stacking two rounds of lossy compression.

Does extracting audio lose quality?

WAV preserves the decoded soundtrack as-is. MP3 re-encodes it, which is lossy, though at a high bitrate the difference is hard to hear. Either way you cannot get back quality the original recording never had.

Can I extract only part of the soundtrack?

Yes. Trim to the range you want before exporting, so you get just the song, the answer or the segment rather than the whole recording.

What video formats can I extract from?
