Reversed footage is a small effect with a lot of uses: undoing a pour, making a jump look like a landing, building a loop that meets itself, or just an eye-catching moment in a montage. This tool plays a section backwards, gives you control over what happens to the sound, and previews the result before export.

Reverse the section, not always the whole clip

Whole-clip reversal is rarely what you want in finished work, because everything including the establishing shot runs backwards. Reversing a chosen section lets you keep the video reading normally and put the effect where it lands — a single action played back, then normal footage resuming. Choosing the section carefully also controls the cost: reversal requires holding decoded frames, so a short section is far lighter on memory than a long one.

What to do about the audio

Reversed audio is instantly recognisable and almost never usable: speech becomes gibberish, and music becomes an eerie swell. In most cases the right answer is to mute the reversed section and let the surrounding sound or a music bed carry across it. Reversed sound is worth keeping only when it is the point — a deliberate effect in a horror or dream sequence. The tool gives you the choice per export rather than assuming.

Can I reverse just part of the video?

Yes. Choose the section to reverse and the rest of the clip plays normally, which is what you usually want in finished work.

Does the audio play backwards?

That is your choice. Reversed speech is unintelligible and reversed music sounds strange, so muting the reversed section is the common approach unless the effect is intentional.

Why does reversing a long video use so much memory?

Playing frames backwards requires holding decoded frames rather than streaming through them, so memory scales with the length and resolution of the reversed section. Reverse shorter sections if a long one fails.

Will the reversed video be the same length?

Yes. Reversal changes the order of frames, not how many there are, so the duration is unchanged.
