Threshold and minimum duration

Two settings decide what counts as silence. The threshold is the level below which audio is treated as quiet, and it has to sit above the room tone of your recording — a noisy room means nothing ever falls below a strict threshold, so nothing gets cut. The minimum duration stops the tool from removing every gap between words, which would make speech sound frantic and unnatural. Half a second to a second is a reasonable floor: long enough to remove real dead air, short enough to leave the rhythm of talking intact.

Review the cuts before exporting

Automatic detection is working from level alone, so it cannot tell a dramatic pause from an accident, and it cannot tell that the quiet moment you are cutting is when you pointed at something on screen. Skim the proposed cuts and reject the ones that carry meaning. Watch for over-tightening as well: a video with every breath removed is exhausting to watch, because listeners need pauses to process what they just heard. Aim for a version that sounds like a well-edited take, not one that sounds like a machine gun.

Will it cut the pauses between my words?

Not if the minimum duration is set sensibly. Keeping it around half a second to a second removes real dead air while leaving natural speech rhythm intact.

Nothing is being detected as silent — why?

Your room tone is probably above the threshold. Raise it until quiet passages register, or run the noise remover first so the background level drops.

Can I reject individual cuts?

Yes. The proposed cuts are shown before export so you can keep a deliberate pause or a quiet moment that carries meaning.

Does the video stay in sync after the cuts?

Yes. Picture and sound are cut together at every join, so lip sync holds across the whole tightened version.

How much time does this usually save?
