The container is not the problem — the codec is
MOV and MP4 are closely related containers, and the visible symptom of “MOV does not work” is nearly always the codec inside. Newer iPhones record HEVC (H.265) to save space, and HEVC has patchy support outside the Apple ecosystem: upload forms reject it, older Windows machines cannot decode it without an add-on, and plenty of Android devices are equally unhappy. ProRes, from professional cameras and Mac editing workflows, is a different problem — enormous files that most consumer software will not touch. Re-encoding to H.264 solves both.
